Sundarbans National Park is a large coastal mangrove forest, shared by India and Bangladesh. The area is home to the Royal Bengal tiger, plus other endangered species such as the estuarine crocodile and Ganges River dolphin. Boats from Khulna city travel south along the river to a quiet mangrove beach at Kotka. Here, a watchtower offers views of the forest and its birds and animals.
The Sundarban National Park is one of India’s most unique wildlife destinations, located in the southern part of West Bengal. It forms part of the world’s largest mangrove forest ecosystem and is internationally recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Spread across thousands of square kilometers of tidal waterways, mudflats, and dense mangrove forests, the park is famous for being home to the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. Unlike other tiger reserves in India, here tigers are known to swim between islands — making this forest truly extraordinary.
Apart from tigers, the park shelters saltwater crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boars, fishing cats, and more than 250 species of birds.
