The journey to Kalash is a transition from the narrow, muddy creeks of the inner Sundarbans to the wide, roaring estuaries of the Matla River. As the boat approaches the camp, the air grows saltier and the sky opens up. Surrounded by a 10-foot-high fence and a deep 20-foot trench, the camp feels like a tiny island of human presence in a kingdom of predators.
Kalash Camp is one of the most remote and coastal forest camps in the Sundarbans region. Located near the Bay of Bengal side of the delta, Kalash Camp offers a rare combination of mangrove wilderness and coastal landscape.
